Through our Local Landmarking Initiative, Preservation Buffalo Niagara (PBN) helps individuals and communities protect the places they love by securing official local landmark status.
What Does Landmarking Cost?
The process of applying for local landmark designation typically costs around $2,500. This includes:
• Historical research and documentation
• Professional writing and photography
• Two public hearings
• The City of Buffalo application fee
For many residents and community groups, this cost can be a barrier to preserving the places that matter most.
❤️ Help Us Make Landmarking Accessible
By donating to our General Landmarking Fund, you’ll directly support people and places that otherwise couldn’t afford to pursue landmark status. Your contribution helps ensure that preservation is inclusive, equitable, and community-driven.
Every dollar goes toward empowering neighborhoods to protect their heritage—and we’ll keep you updated on our current landmarking efforts through our monthly newsletter, The Preservation Post.
