Founded in 2020, PBN’s Gay Places Initiative is dedicated to documenting, preserving, and celebrating LGBTQ historic sites in Western New York. Through the Initiative we aim to move from a bi-coastal narrative to a holistic narrative of LGBTQ history using WNY as a model. The Initiative grew out of Gay Places with Dr. Jeffry Iovannone, a blog series highlighting the work of local LGBTQ historian Dr. Iovannone and other guest writers to provide insight to the LGBTQ history associated with our existing historic built environment- narrative which are frequently forgotten ignored or purposely left out.
