Guidelines for Maintenance, Repairs and Additions
Under the National Historic Preservation Act, the Secretary of the Interior is responsible for establishing professional standards and for providing guidance on the preservation of the nation’s historic properties. The Standards address each of the four treatments of historic preservation (Preservation, Rehabilitation, Restoration, and Reconstruction) and provide general guidance for work on any historic building. The Standards were last updated in in 2017, and the full, 252-page pdf version can be found here.
