Join Christiana Limniatis and Tabitha O’Connell for a delightful Saturday walk around the Sweeney Estate Historic District in Tonawanda, which was featured in our 2021 Preservation Passport season. Sometimes referred to as the “Lumber Baron” neighborhood, this district was initially developed by James Sweeney, Sr. starting when he purchased the land that now comprises it in 1824. It became home to a mix of wealthy and middle-class citizens and features both high-style Victorian-era homes and smaller workers’ cottages.
